Bibigo Korean Style Fried Rice with Chicken and Korean BBQ Flavor Review

Bibigo Korean Style Fried Rice with Chicken and Korean BBQ Flavor

Here at Freezer Meal Frenzy, we took a bit of a break from writing reviews. As many of our regular readers know, we spent this time migrating our content to a cloud-based sever. We’ve definitely noticed faster load times on our end, and we hope all of our readers are enjoying a snappier website as well!

Before we took our break, we had just started sampling the Bibigo brand, to the delight of our fans. We think the things we’ve tried so far have been pretty alright, and we look forward to trying more of what the brand offers. So today we’re picking that project back up with the Bibigo Korean Style Fried Rice.

You can pan fry this rice, or you can cook it in the microwave. Either cooking method is pretty easy, but we tend to cook our rice in the microwave to see how it turns out there (which is what we did for this review). If you’re looking for a slightly crispier rice, you’ll probably want to go with the pan. (To read the full cooking instructions for both methods, check out our package scans at the bottom of this review.)

In the microwave, the rice comes out nice and soft, which we actually enjoy. The flavor is great too, because there’s a bit of Korean-style BBQ sauce tossed into this. There’s not a ton of it, but there’s enough to give the whole dish hints of that specific BBQ flavor, so even a bite of just rice is going to be an enjoyable one.

There are some pieces of chicken in the mix, and this stuff is excellent. It has a bit of a charred flavor, but it also soaks up just enough of that Korean BBQ sauce that it has a subtle sweetness to it. We would honestly love to eat just a side of this chicken on it’s own, because it’s fantastic.

Aside from the chicken, you’ve got a veggie blend that includes peas, corn, carrots, bell peppers, and onions. The portion size for each of these things is pretty tiny, though you will taste hints of the carrots and corn occasionally. We have no complaints about the veggies here.

And then there’s just a tiny amount of scrambled eggs here. We don’t think these eggs are particularly good — they’re a bit dry and spongy — but we do like our fried rice to include eggs. We’ll take what we can get, we suppose.

The box contains two bags of rice, but for some reason this is considered three servings. That’s a strange way to break up the calorie count for two bags of rice, now isn’t it? One serving contains 270 calories and 740 mg of sodium, so if we’re understanding this correctly, that means one bag of rice contains 405 calories and 1,110 mg of sodium. You can see why Bibigo broke this up the way they did; those numbers are quite high for what’s basically a side dish.

The Bibigo Korean Style Fried Rice with Chicken and Korean BBQ Flavor tastes great, but the calorie count is just a bit high for a side dish. Even so, we love the chicken here, and the Korean-style BBQ sauce, while used sparingly, makes this a win in our book.
