“Ten thousand years will give you such a crick in the neck!”
That’s what Genie said after he emerged from the magic lamp in the 1992 Disney film Aladdin. And we have to admit, we feel this a little bit. We’ve been very busy with site work that doesn’t involve writing frozen food reviews, so we haven’t posted anything in a good while now. In fact, it’s been more than a month since we posted a frozen food review.
But we’re back. We’re working the cricks out of our necks and rolling up our sleeves, because we’ve got some work to do. Today, we’re checking out the Cinnabon Cheddar Roll Sausage & Egg Sandwich. Now, it’s been a while since we reviewed anything at all, but it’s been a really long time since we reviewed something from Cinnabon. We’re excited to get back into the swing of things with a tasty breakfast sandwich from a brand that we’ve been neglecting for way too long.
But first, of course, we must cook this thing up. The box gives instructions for both the microwave and the toaster oven, but we’re going to just use the microwave for this. It just takes 60 to 90 seconds and it’s easy as can be. (If you want to read the full cooking instructions straight off the box, check out the package scans at the bottom of this review.)
As you can see in the image above, this sandwich is all bun. That’s not necessarily a bad thing — this is a tasty cheddar roll that’s a little tough on the outside and has a great flavor. It also survives the microwave process better than you might expect (though the bottom does admittedly get a little soggy). But with so much bun here, there’s not much room for the rest of the sandwich.
There’s an egg patty, which ends up a lot more moist than we expected but has an oddly fishy flavor. We’re not sure where that comes from, because there is nary a sea creature to be found here. It’s weird, but you’ll only notice it if you actually pull the egg out and eat it separately (which we did for the sake of this review). The massive amount of bun will mostly hide that fishiness when you’re actually eating the sandwich.
And then there’s the sausage patty, which is even smaller than the egg patty but tastes absolutely wonderful. It has a little bit of saltiness to it — in fact, this might be the perfect amount of saltiness. It also seems to be glazed with something. We’re not sure what that is, but it means you’ll end up with a juicy, rich-tasting slab of sausage that is a real treat to eat. It’s just too bad it’s so small.
We really hope you didn’t go into this expecting something diet-friendly. Just one sandwich contains 360 calories and 590 mg of sodium. And these aren’t very big — we think you could easily polish off the whole box in a sitting (there are two sandwiches per box). Those calories really add up, so be careful!
The Cinnabon Cheddar Roll Sausage & Egg Sandwich is a pretty tasty treat. The egg portion tastes a little weird and the cheddar roll hogs most of the attention, but even so, this tastes pretty darn good. While there’s definitely room for improvement, we also think there’s plenty here to love — so long as you don’t pull the egg out and eat it separately, that is…
