Jimmy Dean Delights Southwest Style Breakfast Wraps Review

Jimmy Dean Delights Southwest Style Breakfast Wraps

Even though the brand has a long history with sausage, we first got into Jimmy Dean frozen food because of their breakfast sandwiches. We can never get enough breakfast sandwiches here at Freezer Meal Frenzy. In fact, we love them so much that we’ll even take them in wrap form!

So today, we’re wrapping it up with the Jimmy Dean Delights Southwest Style Breakfast Wraps, which come four in a box. We’ve tried some of JD’s other breakfast wraps in the past, but this is our first encounter with the southwest-style wraps. So let’s dig in!

Of course, we’ll have to cook these up first. Thankfully,it’s super simple to do so. Just wrap one of these in a paper towel, then pop it into the microwave for about 90 seconds. That’s all there is to it. (If you want to read the full cooking instructions straight off the back of the box, check out the package scans at the bottom of this review.)

First up, each of these comes in a whole wheat tortilla that has just a little bit of sweetness to it. Sure, it will end up just a little bit soggy, but that’s the price of doing business with microwave meals. And really, even the word “soggy” is an exaggeration, as this shell might be better described as moist.

But these wraps are really all about what’s inside. You’ve got some eggs, turkey sausage, veggies, and cheese. The cheese is heavenly — a blend of white cheddar and monterey jack that goops its way into every crevice of the wrap. It tastes really good, and it lends the whole thing a creamy consistency.

The veggie blend is a southwestern treat: onions, bell peppers, black beans, and corn. That’s a lot of variety in a little space, which means none of these things really gets to have a lot of say in the overall flavor. But still, we appreciate the blend, and it ends up being the right mix for these wraps.

The majority of the filling is egg, which doesn’t have a ton of flavor but it doesn’t need to when that cheese blend is so good. And apparently there’s some turkey sausage in here, though the portion seems absurdly small. Especially considering the Jimmy Dean brand is known for their sausage. It seems weird to be so stingy with the thing you do best. Then again, it doesn’t matter much, because the wrap still tastes great.

One of these wraps contains about 300 calories (120 from fat) and 600 mg of sodium. That doesn’t seem too bad, but keep in mind that one of these might not fill you up. If you have some fruit and a big cup of coffee, you might get away with just one, but if you just eat the wrap on its own, you might still end up hungry afterward.

The Jimmy Dean Delights Southwest Style Breakfast Wraps aren’t perfect, but they’re still pretty tasty. That’s mostly due to a killer cheese blend and the slightly sweet tortilla shells. We do wish there were more sausage inside, but as is, these still have a great flavor.
