Jimmy Dean Sausage Breakfast Burritos Review

Jimmy Dean Sausage Breakfast Burritos

It’s no secret that we’re big fans of frozen burritos here at Freezer Meal Frenzy. It’s also no secret that we love us some breakfast food. So when you combine burritos and breakfast to make breakfast burritos, we’re totally willing to indulge!

We recently discovered the Jimmy Dean Sausage Breakfast Burritos while grocery shopping, and surprisingly, we’ve never tried these before. We’ve certainly tried breakfast burritos from the Jimmy Dean brand (and we tend to really enjoy their breakfast sandwiches), so it seemed strange to us that these had somehow passed us by. Well, there’s only one way to rectify that: Today we’re going to cook up some burritos!

These come four in a box, and each one is individually wrapped for freshness.

Heating up one of these will give you no trouble at all. Simply open up the package, wrap one burrito in a paper towel, then microwave it for about 85 seconds. We were suspicious that this wasn’t going to be enough time, but our burrito came out piping hot, so it really does work. (If you want to read the full cooking instructions straight off the back of the box, check out our package scans at the bottom of this review.)

Admittedly, these end up a little bit runny, but the flavor is great, so we’re not going to spend too much time complaining about the less-than-perfect consistency.

The runniness is partially the fault of the eggs. It’s not that the eggs themselves are runny, but they tend to draw moisture like moisture magnets, so the burrito filling ends up a little bit watery. We suspect that cooking these in the oven might mitigate that somewhat, but the box doesn’t give oven instructions so we didn’t attempt to cook them that way.

The real delight, though, is the three-cheese sauce that surrounds those eggs. It’s a blend of cheddar, parmesan, and mozzarella, and it makes for the perfect filling for these burritos. Sure, it tastes a little bit processed, but it’s also rich and creamy, and it complements the sausage well.

And yes, Jimmy Dean was at one point known for their sausage, which means they take this stuff pretty seriously. There might not be a ton of it inside these burritos, but what’s there is pretty delicious. It has a lovely flavor with just a little bit of bite to it, and it’s not overly rubbery (which can be a problem with microwaved sausage). We tend to enjoy Jimmy Dean sausage, and these burritos certainly won’t change our minds.

Now the bad news: One of these burritos contains 330 calories (170 from fat) and 880 mg of sodium. That wouldn’t be bad at all if a single burrito could fill you up, but we really don’t think that’s going to be the case. Our reviewer ended up eating two of these and complained of still being hungry afterwards.

The Jimmy Dean Sausage Breakfast Burritos might not be super filling, but they are delicious. With Jimmy Dean’s signature sausage smothered in a three-cheese sauce, it’s really hard to go wrong.
