We don’t respond to every comment we get here at Freezer Meal Frenzy, but we promise you that we read every single one of them. Even back when we had the previous comments system, we took care to read every comment we ever received.
A few weeks ago, we got a comment on our review of the Bellatoria Ultimate Supreme Ultra Thin Crust Pizza, which talked about how tasty that particular pizza is. That reminded us that we still have plenty of Bellatoria pizzas left to try, so we’ve been making an effort to review more of them. See, folks, you’re comments really do matter to us! Sometimes they even help us decide what to review next!
That eventually led us to the Bellatoria Breadcrumb Artisan Crust Supreme Pizza, which we’re reviewing today. We’re quite familiar with Bellatoria’s thin crust pizzas, but this is our first time trying one of the breadcrumb crust pizzas, so we’re excited to dig in.
Cooking this is pretty simple. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, then pop in the pizza for about 17 to 22 minutes. It’s so easy we could do it in our sleep! Well, we could, but we don’t encourage it. Don’t cook pizza in your sleep, dear readers! You could cause some serious problems! The weird thing about Bellatoria pizzas is that the more of them we eat, the more we like them. And this particular pizza is a real treat. Bellatoria uses a sweeter pizza sauce, and they tend to be pretty generous with the cheese portion. Both of these things really speak to us. But with this pizza, we think they really nailed the toppings as well.
This is a supreme pizza, which means it contains pepperoni, sausage, bell peppers, onions, and black olives. We’re not sure how we never noticed this before, but Bellatoria’s pepperoni is actually super good. We’re less fond of the sausage, which has a little bit of that black licorice flavor that sometimes comes from anise or fennel seed (we’re not sure which this sausage uses because the ingredients just say “spices”).
The bell peppers are fantastic as well, and we were delighted by how well they work with that sweeter pizza sauce. And the amount of onions here is pretty much perfect — they enhance the flavor of everything else, which is their most important job. We don’t care for olives, but these ones didn’t stand out to us, so that’s a good thing in our book. If you’re eating this specifically for the olives, though, you might wish for a stronger olive flavor.
The thing that makes this pizza different from the Ultra Thin Crust variation is that this uses a breadcrumb artisan crust. This gives it kind of a gravelly texture that leaves your fingers coated with breadcrumbs after you pick up a slice. We’re not huge fans of the texture, but we can’t deny that the flavor is really good. This crust is such an improvement over Bellatoria’s typical thin crust!
According to the box, 1/5 of the pizza is a serving. We can’t imagine cutting a circular pizza into fifths; that’s just ridiculous. But if you manage to eat that amount of pizza, you’ll be taking in 310 calories and 690 mg of sodium. If you’re a normal person, though, we think you’ll probably end up eating about half the pizza. If you do that, those numbers jump up to 775 calories and 1,725 mg of sodium. Obviously, you’ll want to eat frozen pizza in moderation.
The Bellatoria Breadcrumb Artisan Crust Supreme Pizza is a shockingly good frozen pizza. Even though we nitpicked a few of the individual ingredients, they all come together to make something astounding. The artisan crust is a much better match for these ingredients than the standard thin crust, which really elevates this pizza from good to great. Or from great to amazing.
