Bellatoria Breadcrumb Artisan Crust Sausage & Uncured Pepperoni Pizza Review

Bellatoria Breadcrumb Artisan Crust Sausage & Uncured Pepperoni Pizza

We were introduced to the Bellatoria brand via their Ultra Thin Crust line. While these pizzas are fine, we definitely prefer DiGiorno as a mid-tier frozen pizza maker, and if we’re in the mood for a pub-style thin-crust pizza, we’d go with Lotzza Motzza over Bellatoria any day of the week. But then we were introduced to the Breadcrumb Artisan Crust line, and the scales fell from our eyes. We were now able to behold the true glory of Bellatoria’s frozen pizzas. You might even say we’ve become fans of the brand at this point.

So we’re very excited to be reviewing another one of these frozen pies today, the Bellatoria Breadcrumb Artisan Crust Sausage & Uncured Pepperoni Pizza.

This is easy enough to cook. Simply preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, then pop the pizza in for about 20 minutes. We used a baking sheet, even though the instructions say to place the pizza directly on the oven rack. Right away, we have to say that the thing that makes this pizza stand out is that breadcrumb crust. It’s a thin crust that has an absolutely delightful texture. This is the type of crust that has all those little grainy pieces that stick to your fingers when you pick it up. It tastes great too.

The meat selection is classic Bellatoria. The sausage is pretty good, but it does have a little bit of that black licorice flavor that comes from using anise or fennel seed (we can’t say for certain which of those things are used in this sausage because the ingredients list just says “spices.”) But Bellatoria’s pepperoni is really, really good. It’s slightly thicker than we’d expect for a mid-range pizza, which means it doesn’t end up getting crispy. We like our pepperoni on the softer side, so that’s perfectly okay with us.

We usually point out that Bellatoria tends to use a sweeter tomato sauce, but we didn’t really notice that with this particular pizza. It’s possible that the sweetness was overpowered by the spiciness of the meats, but this just didn’t taste as sweet as normal to us.

Bellatoria tends to be generous with their cheese as well, and that’s the case here. No, it’s not as cheese-loaded as a Lotzza Motzza, but there’s more cheese on this pizza than you’d expect on, say, something by DiGiorno. There’s also some provolone mixed in with the mozzarella, which is a nice touch.

According to the box, 1/4 of the pizza is a serving size. If you eat this much, you’ll be taking in 390 calories and 880 mg of sodium. Of course, that means that if you eat half the pizza (which is a pretty normal serving size, we think), you’ll be up to 780 calories and 1,760 mg of sodium. Wowzers, Bowser!

The Bellatoria Breadcrumb Artisan Crust Sausage & Uncured Pepperoni Pizza is good enough that it might win over some Bellatoria skeptics. No, it’s not quite as good as the supreme variation of this same pizza, but that breadcrumb crust really elevates this to the next level. We look forward to trying more of these — the sooner, the better!
