Deep Indian Kitchen Chicken Vindaloo Review

Deep Indian Kitchen Chicken Vindaloo

We’ve been fans of the Deep Indian Kitchen line for a long time now. “Wait,” we hear you saying, “isn’t that a relatively new brand?” Well, it is and it isn’t. The name Deep Indian Kitchen dates back to 2019, but that was just a rebranding of the super-delicious Tandoor Chef line, which has roots dating back to the 1970s.

Now, we actually thought we’d covered the entirety of the Deep line, but then we stumbled upon the Deep Indian Kitchen Chicken Vindaloo at our neighborhood co-op. We knew right away that we had to bring it back to the Freezer Meal Frenzy office and give it a taste so we can report back to our loyal readers.

Cooking this up is super-duper easy. Just pull the meal out of the box, puncture the film three times (the directions are oddly specific about this), then pop the thing in the microwave. Cook it for three minutes, pull it out for a little stir, then cook it for another 90 seconds. Then let it cool for a couple minutes. Boom. Easy. (If you want to read the full cooking instructions straight off the box, check out the package scans at the bottom of this review.)

As you can see in the image above, the sauce in the chicken side of the meal gets kind of runny. We’re not super into that, but this is our one nitpick about the meal. Everything else about this is incredible.

The chicken is unbelievable. This stuff melts in your mouth, and the texture is out of this world. We eat a lot of frozen chicken here at Freezer Meal Frenzy, folks, and this really is as good as it gets. This stuff is mind-meltingly awesome, and it has to be experienced to be believed.

The sauce, despite being watery, is delicious. It’s also spicier than we were expecting. Note that this is the Indian-food-style spiciness that hits the back of your throat rather than a more Southwestern spiciness that burns your tongue. We found our sinuses to be clearing out pretty much immediately, and we had to quickly wash our first bite down with a cool glass of water.

This also comes with a side of turmeric rice, and while the rice is nothing special on its own, it tastes great when it’s mixed into the sauce. And we promise you, you’ll have a ton of leftover sauce once you finish your chicken, so there’s plenty for the rice portion.

This is the part of the review where we generally deliver the bad news. You know, the part where we say, “This thing is loaded up with calories,” or “this meal has sodium up the wazoo,” but you know what? This is actually a pretty diet-conscious meal. It contains 340 calories and 580 mg of sodium, and both of those numbers are less than we were expecting based on how much flavor this has. So no, we actually don’t have bad news for you today.

The Deep Indian Kitchen Chicken Vindaloo takes some of the best frozen chicken we’ve ever had and drenches it in a super-craveworthy spicy sauce. The result is an incredible meal that we can’t recommend highly enough. The folks at Deep Indian Kitchen really knocked this one out of the park.
