Trader Joe’s Super Premium Pumpkin Ice Cream Review

Trader Joe's Super Premium Pumpkin Ice Cream

We thought we’d reviewed all of Trader Joe’s frozen fall options this year, but it turns out we’d missed one. We’re not sure how the Trader Joe’s Super Premium Pumpkin Ice Cream flew under our radar when we were in full-on pumpkin-head mode, but it did. Thankfully, this one is sticking around pretty late in the year, and we were able to get our hands on a carton at the end of November.

Yes, we’d considered ourselves officially done with fall foods, and we’d already been reviewing TJ’s winter ice cream options (the Candy Cane Joe-Joe’s Ice Cream is a must-try). But when we saw the pumpkin option at our local TJ’s store, we knew we had one more fall food review in us.

And boy howdy, this is a good one!

Now, we should point out that this isn’t the only pumpkin ice cream we tried this year. We also gave the Sundae Shoppe Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream (from Aldi) the ol’ Freezer Meal Frenzy taste test. But the Trader Joe’s Super Premium Pumpkin Ice Cream blows the Aldi option completely out of the water. This is some seriously tasty stuff.

Trader Joe's Super Premium Pumpkin Ice Cream

This tastes like pumpkin pie filling. No, it doesn’t just taste kind of like pumpkin pie filling — if you told someone to close their eyes and open their mouth, then you scooped a dollop of this ice cream into their gaping pie-hole, they’d probably ask you why you stuck pumpkin pie filling in the freezer instead of a pie crust. It tastes pretty much exactly like what you’d think a super-cold pumpkin pie filling would taste like. The flavor is super intense.

According to the Trader Joe’s website, this ice cream is made with “nearly 20% pure pumpkin purée.” And we’d believe it. That definitely explains the sheer intensity of this flavor.

Admittedly, we weren’t completely in love with the pumpkin and ice cream combo when we tried the Aldi version of this, but the Trader Joe’s version has completely won us over.

According to the package, 1/6 of the carton is a serving, and that much ice cream will contain 290 calories. Fortunately, this stuff is super rich, so we think you’ll feel pretty done after eating that amount. As delicious as this is, it’s far too rich to binge. This is more of a snacker ice cream — you’re more likely to wander over to the freezer and scoop out a spoonful or two to tide over a late-night pumpkin pie craving rather than find yourself eating a whole carton in a sitting.

The Trader Joe’s Super Premium Pumpkin Ice Cream is a ridiculously good fall-themed ice cream. While we weren’t quite sure about pumpkin-flavored ice cream before trying this one, Trader Joe’s has made true believers of us.
