Life Cuisine Protein Lovers Cauliflower Crust Chicken Mozzarella Piada Review

Life Cuisine Protein Lovers Cauliflower Crust Chicken Mozzarella Piada

The hot new craze in the frozen food world seems to be cauliflower. We see it pop up in more and more places, each one more unexpected than the last. And Lean Cuisine has been riding this trend for a while now, with cauliflower crust being used in their personal pizzas and sandwiches.

Today, we’re checking out a fresh take on a previous sandwich, the Life Cuisine Protein Lovers Cauliflower Crust Chicken Mozzarella Piada. This has been moved into the new Protein Lover’s line since we reviewed the original version of it back in 2021.

So, the last time we reviewed this, we cooked it in the microwave. That’s all fine and good, but this time around we decided to cook it the way Lean Cuisine intended: in the oven. (If you want to read the full cooking instructions for this frozen sandwich, check out our package scans at the bottom of this review.)

This comes out of the oven looking a bit like a personal-size pizza. But you know what you don’t do with a pizza? You don’t fold it over like it’s a freaking sandwich, regardless of what New Yorkers will tell you!

Okay, so we’re just kidding. You can do whatever you like with your pizza. Fold away, you monsters!

Now that we’ve folded this, let’s talk about the crust. The edges got nice and crispy without being too hard, and it gets softer as you get closer to the center. We think the ratio of crust to filling is pretty decent here, but we also think the crust is here more for the texture than the flavor. In fact, this hardly tastes like anything at all. We expected to taste a little bit of cauliflower here, and we didn’t at all. (Apparently, this is what we said last time we tried this too, so we shouldn’t have been surprised by this fact.)

The mix of veggies and chicken is very satisfying. We do wish there were more cheese, and we could even use a little more salt on this. This seems like it was designed to be just a tad bit saltier than the current version actually is.

This has a mild amount of spice to it. It’s not going to burn your mouth or anything, but this might get your tongue tingling just a little bit.

The last time we reviewed this, we complained of a strange aftertaste, and that’s no longer an issue. We’re not sure if the recipe changed or we did, but either way, we don’t think it’s a problem anymore.

One piada contains 360 calories and 610 mg of sodium. Both of those numbers are respectable, and lower than the average frozen food. We didn’t find this to be especially filling, though, so consider that before you go off and celebrate the small calorie amount here.

The Life Cuisine Protein Lovers Cauliflower Crust Chicken Mozzarella Piada is surprisingly tasty when cooked in the oven. No, we probably won’t make this a regular meal, but we were pleasantly surprised by how pleasant it was to eat this time around.
