Smart Ones Spaghetti with Meat Sauce Review

Smart Ones Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

Spaghetti is one of those classic low-effort meals. Just heat up some water, toss in some noodles, simmer a pan filled with sauce, and you’ve got yourself an easy dinner. So we always question the need for a frozen version of it. It takes almost as long to heat up a microwavable spaghetti than it does to make it from scratch, so why bother?

So we dove into the Smart Ones Spaghetti with Meat Sauce with a bit of skepticism.

Now, let’s start with the meat. The meat in this dish is quite good. There are larger chunks than we expected, and they have a tiny bit of spice to them. They also soak up the flavor of the sauce, which makes a meaty bite a delicious one.

The sauce on its own is halfway decent. It’s a bit runnier than we’d like, but it has a potent tomato-y flavor that we kind of enjoy. It’s certainly not the best spaghetti sauce we’ve tried, but we found it to be perfectly passable. Smart Ones also doesn’t skimp on the sauce here, so there’s plenty left over for dipping a nice piece of garlic toast in.

The noodles are a little on the firm side for us. Perhaps cooking this just a minute longer would take care of that, though we’re not sure. Either way, they’re pretty inoffensive.

This is actually a pretty low-calorie meal, at only 280 (45 from fat). And for Weight Watchers fans out there, the SmartPoints value is 9. That’s lower than we’d expect for a pasta dish (the Stouffer’s Spaghetti with Meatballs has 420 calories), so that’s a welcome surprise. And at 420 mg of sodium, this is one of the lower sodium levels we’ve seen in a frozen food.

The Smart Ones Spaghetti with Meat Sauce is simply inoffensive. We know we’ve used the word inoffensive just a couple paragraphs ago, but it’s just so perfectly apt. This really isn’t a stand-out pasta dish, but it’s alright. We’d actually recommend adding some parmesan to this if you decide to try it. That would really kick the whole thing up a notch.

So is this worth heating up over making spaghetti from scratch? Maybe. The real selling point for this dish is the low calorie count, so maybe it’s worth it if you’re watching your calories. If not, though, we find this a little hard to recommend over a made-from-scratch plate of spaghetti.

I don’t like how spicy the smart one’s spaghetti with meat sauce is. It burns my tongue & the roof of my mouth. I like Stouffer’s brand better.Their brand isn’t spicy
