Marie Callender’s Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese Review

The Freezer Meal Frenzy staff has made no secret of our love for macaroni and cheese. We will never turn our noses up at a bowl of noodles in a cheese sauce. We also love winter squash, so Marie Callender’s Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese definitely appealed to us from the very first moment we spotted it.

This box looked pretty massive when we first saw it, but when we removed the container from the packaging, we could see that the portion size was pretty reasonable. That’s not uncommon for Marie Callender’s frozen meals.

This is a pretty standard microwave dinner; you heat it for a few minutes, give it a stir, then heat it again. The entire meal was ready in under five minutes. (If you want to see the full, detailed cooking instructions, check out our package scans at the bottom of this article.)

If you aren’t a fan of butternut squash and are hoping for a way to sneak more healthy foods into your diet, this meal might not go over well with you. Marie Callender’s doesn’t do anything to disguise the taste of the squash. There are big chunks of squash scattered throughout the meal, and the cheese sauce also has a distinct squash flavor.

Since we love squash, however, this is perfectly fine by us! The cheddar cheese sauce isn’t anything to write home about, but the bits of squash make the meal feel a little more special. There are 360 calories in the meal, which is pretty reasonable, and there are 15 grams of protein, which makes it nice and filling. We wolfed this down quickly and were pretty satisfied.

Marie Callender’s Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese is a nice option for mac and cheese fans who don’t mind the taste of squash. This contains a whopping 940 mg of sodium, so we can’t really call it a healthy meal. Still, this seems like a reasonable was to indulge in your passion for mac and cheese.
