Great minds have said that there’s no pleasure, no delight greater than macaroni noodles made with cheese.
Okay, we made that up. But we do have a weakness for a tasty bowl of mac & cheese. We love the standard stuff, but we’re also big fans of spins on this classic dish. Our interest was piqued as soon as we saw Stouffer’s Cheddar & Goat Cheese Mac in the freezer aisle, which is part of their Urban Bistro lineup.
We knew we were going to like this mac before we ever put it in the microwave. The goat cheese is sourced from Stickney Hill, an award-winning dairy farm based in our home state of Minnesota. After a few minutes in the microwave, we were even more impressed. This meal looks amazing, and it smells great too.
After scarfing down a bowl, we can confirm that this mac & cheese is every bit as good as it looks. The combination of a sharp cheddar with the tart, rich flavor of goat cheese is absolutely phenomenal. This isn’t a particularly complex dish — it’s really just noodles and cheese — but its simplicity works in its favor. It’s a creamy, flavorful sauce that perfectly compliments the noodles.
Speaking of noodles, this meal uses organic cavatappi rather than elbow macaroni noodles. Cavatappi is actually our preferred noodle when we make mac & cheese from scratch. It’s a great match for thick, creamy sauces like this one. Our noodles turned out perfectly; you can tell they were made with a higher-quality flour.
Stouffer’s Urban Bistro Cheddar & Goat Cheese Mac has convinced us that goat’s cheese belongs in mac & cheese. Forget Kraft — Urban Bistro is where we’ll be turning the next time we want a quick and easy bowl of mac. This meal can easily rival homemade macaroni dishes, and it’s definitely one of the best frozen macs we’ve tried.
