Impossible Chicken Nuggets Made from Plants Review

Impossible Chicken Nuggets Made from Plants

“Can we make the impossible possible?”

That seems to be the question Impossible asked when they came up with their oh-so-authentic take on faux meat. The Impossible Burger craze was really in full swing back before the pandemic, but those folks are still at it, and their vegetarian-friendly meat substitutes have been hitting grocery stores.

We take our frozen food reviews seriously here at Freezer Meal Frenzy, and when such a popular brand ends up in the freezer aisle, we know it’s our duty to try it out. So today we’re checking out the Impossible Chicken Nuggets Made from Plants, which, believe it or not, we actually found at our local Trader Joe’s store.

This review was a long time coming, so let’s get right to the cooking part. There are three cooking methods provided by the package: Oven, microwave, and air fryer. Of these, the oven method is the one that Impossible recommends, so that’s what we went with for this review. (If you want to read the full cooking instructions for all three methods, scroll to the bottom of this review and check out our package scans.)

Normally, we have one of our vegetarian staffers review vegetarian-friendly nuggets. Our team tends to be huge fans of meatless nuggets, after all. However, because the Impossible brand tries to be as authentic as possible, we thought we’d run these by one of our carnivorous reviewers.

Now, the thing about an actual chicken nugget is that the meat tends to be highly processed no matter what. We assume this makes the texture a little bit easier to pull off than, say, a hamburger. Even so, we have to say that we were pretty darn impressed with these nuggets. The texture feels pretty much perfect, though these are maybe just a little more damp than you’d expect from a processed chicken.

The flavor is spot-on as well. Sure, the delicious breading does mask the flavor a little bit, but maybe that’s the extra edge these nuggets needed to really drive home that authentic taste. Honestly, if you served these to a meat eater and told them they were real chicken nuggets, we don’t think they’d have any reason to be suspicious. These are pretty darn close to the real thing.

Also, just a dab of BBQ sauce elevates these to a whole new level.

The bag says that five nuggets is a serving, though we think you could easily eat double that (we certainly did!) If you stick with the recommended five, you’ll be downing 240 calories and 480 mg of sodium. If you double that, like we did, you’re up to 480 calories and 960 mg of sodium, which is a bit high. And then you have to factor in any dipping sauce you chose to use…

The Impossible Chicken Nuggets Made from Plants really do perform an impossible task. The authenticity here is astounding. In fact, these might even give Morningstar Farms a run for their money as our go-to choice for meatless nuggets!
