Gardein Teriyaki Chick’n Bowl Review

Gardein Teriyaki Chick'n Bowl

Gardein’s faux meats are a staple in our freezer. Gardein makes an incredible imitation fish, and their skillet meals are a fast and meat-free dinner option. Even if you prefer meals that you can heat in your office microwave, Gardein has you covered. The Gardein Teriyaki Chick’n Bowl is one of several single-serving, microwave options.

It took us four minutes and 15 seconds to cook this meal, which isn’t too bad. We didn’t have to do anything fancy, like stop the microwave and give the food a good stir. We just had to give our meal a few minutes to cool before we dug in.

The texture and taste of the chick’n is similar to Gardein’s Teriyaki Chicken Strips, which makes sense. However, because we cooked this in the microwave, the faux meat ends up being pretty rubbery, and none of the other ingredients have enough crunch to make up for that. If the broccoli was a little bit crisper, this would have been a substantially better meal. As is, everything’s a little too soft for our liking.

That said, this isn’t a bad meal. The teriyaki sauce is pretty tasty, and it helps mask how bland the veggies are. We don’t love the texture of the imitation chicken, but none of the flavors here are bad. We wound up polishing off this meal, but it’s probably not something we’d eat again.

Gardein is one of our favorite meatless brands, and we definitely appreciate that they’re offering single-serve options like the Gardein Teriyaki Chick’n Bowl. Sadly, this meal didn’t really impress us. We think that there are better frozen vegetarian dinners on the market, even if you’re craving chicken.
