Trader Joe’s Dozen Sweet Bites Review

Trader Joe's Dozen Sweet Bites

We have to admit that sometimes we have a sweet tooth here at Freezer Meal Frenzy. Thankfully, the freezer aisle is not a bad place to dig up some tasty treats. If you’re at Trader Joe’s, for example, you might stumble upon the Trader Joe’s Sweet Bites, which we’re reviewing today.

Before we actually dig in, we want to talk a little bit about how these are packaged. As you can see in the image below, they come in a tray that keeps them separated while in the freezer.

This means you can easily pop some on a plate, let them thaw for a couple hours, then enjoy some tasty sweets at your own leisure. The package recommends taking them out of the tray before they thaw so you won’t mess up that lovely layered look when you jab your thumb into the side of one of these.

There are three types of treat in this box: Chocolate & Coffee “Opéra” Cake, Raspberry “Macron Aux Framboises” Cake, and Caramel & Chocolate Cake. We’re going to talk about each one separately.

First off, the Chocolate & Coffee “Opéra” Cake is basically tiramisu (which we happen to be huge fans of). It’s a layered delight for coffee lovers, with a chocolatey, cakey center surrounded by layers of creamy, espresso-y goodness.

The Raspberry “Macron Aux Framboises” Cake is more like an angel food cake, with two layers of sweet cake with a raspberry-and-cream-cheese filling.

The Caramel & Chocolate Cake is the only member of this tasty trio without a fancy-sounding nickname, but that doesn’t mean it’s not also delectable. It has a crispy chocolate crust on the bottom, with a little bit of carmel, topped with a heap of chocolate mousse.

If you stick to a single bite, you won’t have to feel too guilty. These range between 60 and 80 calories a pop, and they have very little sodium. However, if you want to try all three varieties in a sitting, or eat half a tray at once (we promise that the temptation can be great), then you’re going to be consuming quite a few calories.

The Trader Joe’s Dozen Sweet Bites make for a great cold snack when that sweet tooth starts barking. All three options are delicious, though you should be careful that you don’t eat too many. Thankfully, we had three people in the Freezer Meal Frenzy office the day we tried these, so none of us had the option to eat the full box. All three of us wanted to.
