We’re constantly surprised by how much variety there is in Good Food Made Simple’s frozen food line. However, while their breakfast foods are sublime, their frozen dinners can be a little hit or miss.
The Chicken Pad Thai has a few things going for it, but it doesn’t live up to the standards set by some of Good Food Made Simple’s other products, especially their breakfasts.
The noodles, which are a big part of this dish, have a mushy consistency; they barely hold their form at all, melting into a goop as soon as they enter your mouth. Something a little firmer would have been a considerable boon for the overall quality of this dish.
The chicken tastes halfway decent and is juicy, but it’s also stringy in a way that frozen chicken tends to be, and we find that to be quite unappealing.
But it’s not all bad. There are veggies mixed into this meal — red bell pepper, snap peas, and carrots — and those are fine. The addition of peanuts makes for a pleasant crunch, something this dish desperately needed. The sauce is quite good; it’s a bit nutty and it even has some unexpected spice to it.
While there are some positives, Good Food Made Simple’s Chicken Pad Thai just doesn’t do it for us. For a much better frozen Asian meal, check out Amy’s Chinese Noodles & Veggies. You’ll be much happier.
