Udi’s line of gluten-free frozen foods can be a real lifesaver for those who can’t eat gluten. However, these products have a tendency to be hit or miss. We did quite enjoy Udi’s Chicken Burrito, so we had high expectation for their Sausage Breakfast Burrito.
The biggest problem was that we decided to follow the instructions on the package to the letter. We were instructed to wrap the frozen burrito in a moist paper towel, then microwave for a minute and a half. We were horrified to pull this thing out of the microwave and discover the soggy mess that awaited us.
The shell was wet; not moist but wet, and the whole thing was barely staying together through some miracle we can’t explain. The sogginess permeated this burrito to its very core, as even the filling seemed a bit waterlogged.
But even so, it actually tasted really good. There isn’t a ton of sausage inside, but there’s enough to give the burrito a nice flavor. And this flavor is furthered by the addition of bell peppers and tomatoes. The cheddar cheese and cheese sauce tie everything together nicely.
Udi’s Sausage Breakfast burrito tastes quite good, though we’d recommend ignoring the cooking instructions on the package and baking this in an oven.
