Trader Joe’s Mashed Cauliflower Review

Trader Joe's Mashed Cauliflower

Cauliflower is a terrific source of B-vitamins and antioxidants, and it’s also extremely versatile. It can be used a substitute for all kinds of high-carb foods, from rice to pizza crust to mashed potatoes. The Freezer Meal Frenzy team has really enjoyed mashed cauliflower in the past, and we were excited to give Trader Joe’s Mashed Cauliflower a taste.

Sometimes, thawing out frozen foods can be a bit of a struggle. When you’re trying to cook a big hunk of frozen food, it can be difficult to heat everything evenly. Trader Joe’s has solved this problem by splitting their mashed cauliflower into tiny, mini-muffin-like chunks.

Because everything is split up, it’s really a breeze to cook. Add a few teaspoons of water, give the cauliflower the occasional stir, and it’ll be perfectly cooked before you know it. Best of all, you can control how much of the cauliflower you cook. If you only want to prepare half the bag, you can do exactly that with minimal problems.

No one grabbing a spoonful of this is going to mistake it for mashed potatoes; it is very clearly cauliflower. However, it does manage to mimic the creamy, comforting appeal of a good bowl of mashed potatoes. The cauliflower is only lightly seasoned, and it could easily be paired with your favorite gravy, but we think it’s perfectly delicious when served plain.

If you like your mashed potatoes a little bit chunky, then this is the mashed cauliflower for you. As you can probably tell from the image above, this doesn’t have an ultra-smooth consistency. There are little chunks of cauliflower in every bite. We appreciate the texture and think it adds to the appeal of this dish, but it’s probably not for everybody.

If you’re interested in mashed cauliflower, and you don’t want to do the mashing yourself, Trader Joe’s Mashed Cauliflower is one of the easiest options on the market. Whether you’re making a quick side or hoping to eat an entire bowl of cauliflower yourself, you won’t find a better option than this simple frozen product.
