Lean Cuisine Features Thin Crust BBQ Recipe Chicken Pizza Review

Lean Cuisine Features Thin Crust BBQ Recipe Chicken Pizza

Lean Cuisine’s BBQ pizza really gets around. We reviewed it back when it was part of their Craveables line, and we reviewed it again when it was moved to the Comfort line. Well, it’s moved again, this time part of the Features line, and that means we’re going to try it out yet again!

Now, the Lean Cuisine Thin Crust BBQ Recipe Chicken Pizza has never impressed us, so we were really hoping Lean Cuisine would finally make some long-needed changes to this pizza. The calories have been reduced from 390 to 340, so that’s a good indication that something fundamental did change here.

Cooking this is the same process it’s always been. You’ll have to fold open the box so that the crisping tray is facing upward, then place the pizza on top of that, then pop the whole thing in the microwave for two minutes and 45 seconds. Let it cool for just a bit and you should be good to go. If, for some reason, you want to read those same directions straight off the side of the box, we’ve included package scans at the bottom of this review.

Now, this is still a square piece of flatbread with a BBQ chicken pizza on top of it. That hasn’t changed. But have the details changed enough to warrant this fresh look, considering this is the third time we’ve visited this same pizza?

Well, not really? We do want to say the crust might be better than it was before, but maybe we’re just feeling especially generous today (we took a trip to Trader Joe’s today, which always puts us in a good mood).

Our biggest problems with this particular pizza have always been that the BBQ sauce isn’t very good (it has sort of a burnt aftertaste to it) and there’s never been enough cheese on top. Neither of those issues has been addressed.

As an experiment, we though we’d try this with some of our own BBQ sauce. We poured a dab onto our plate and dipped the pizza in it — and it was an instant improvement. Come on, Lean Cuisine, this is the thing you need to lock down or this will never be a very good pizza.

It probably comes as no surprise that the Lean Cuisine Thin Crust BBQ Recipe Chicken Pizza still has many of the same problems it’s always had. This is our third time reviewing it, and it’s our third time feeling disappointed by it. We’ll keep reviewing new versions if Lean Cuisine keeps putting them out, but we’re really hoping they fix the BBQ sauce the next time around, because that’s the core issue with this pizza. And some more cheese would really help a lot too.
