Trader Joe’s Premium Salmon Burgers Review

Trader Joe's Premium Salmon Burgers

The frozen burger selection at Trader Joe’s has really been a dream come true for our burger-loving staffers. From turkey burgers to shrimp burgers (to even the classic beef burgers), we want to try all of the burgers that TJ’s offers.

Today we’re digging into yet another burger type, the Trader Joe’s Premium Salmon Burgers, to see what they’re all about.

There are several different options for cooking these. You can cook them on a grill, heat them in the microwave, pop them into the oven, or pan-fry them on a stovetop. We opted for the stovetop method, as that’s been our go-to cooking method for Trader Joe’s burgers for a while now, and there’s no reason to change what ain’t broke. (If you want to see the full cooking instructions for these frozen burgers, check out the package scans at the bottom of this review.)

These patties are mostly salmon, as the name implies, and while they do have a little bit of a fishy flavor to them, it’s not overwhelming. In fact, you can drown it out pretty easily with just a little bit of sauce.

The consistency is quite a bit softer than your typical beef burger — or even a turkey burger — so the meat sort of falls apart once you start eating it. These patties are also not as chunky as a veggie burger — in fact, they feel a bit like tuna patties to us.

Now, we actually decided to eat a second burger, and we thought we’d try the microwave out. The burger did have more of a fishy flavor when cooked this way, and we found it to be even softer than our pan-fried one. We definitely recommend the stovetop method for these, as it gives the outside some much-needed firmness, and the oil we fried this in helped to mute the seafood flavor a bit.

There are a million things you can do with a burger patty, but we stuck with our traditional swiss cheese, lettuce, and mayo combo on a wheat bun. The Trader Joe’s website also has some fun recipes you can make using these burgers, so feel free to try those as well.

One burger only has 100 calories and 330 mg of sodium. That’s a pretty lean burger, but keep in mind you’ll have to add up the calories for whatever you add to dress it up with. Even our simple dressing, pictured above, adds quite a bit of calories — when you start throwing on things like ketchup and mustard, you’re really going to town.

The Trader Joe’s Premium Salmon Burgers are quite good, though they’re not our favorite burgers of the TJ’s bunch. No, we think we still prefer the Trader Joe’s Turkey Burgers to anything else in their burger line. Still, these salmon burgers are pretty tasty and low in calories. If you’re looking for something interesting to do with salmon, you’ll want to check these out.
