Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Cheese Pizza with a Cauliflower Crust Review

Trader Joe's Gluten Free Cheese Pizza with a Cauliflower Crust

The Freezer Meal Frenzy staff loves a good frozen pizza, so we try to make sure there’s always at least one pizza in our freezers. While pizza isn’t always the best option for people that avoid carbs and gluten, Trader Joe’s has gluten-free eaters covered. The Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Cheese Pizza with a Cauliflower Crust is a gluten-free take on the classic cheese pizza.

Trader Joe’s recommends preheating your oven for 20 full minutes before you cook your pizza, but we preheated ours normally and had no issues. We let our pizza cook for 12 minutes and wound up with a perfectly browned and crispy crust. We recommend lining your baking sheet with aluminum foil before you cook your pizza so that it doesn’t stick to the pan.

If you’re expecting this to be a gourmet pizza, you’re probably in for a disappointment. The cauliflower crust is thin, and the ingredients are pretty basic. In fact, we thought this tasted incredibly similar to a Totino’s cheese pizza. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing — we’ve been known to enjoy Totino’s pizza from time to time — but you’ll want to make sure your expectations are in check.

There’s a slight aftertaste here, but it isn’t overpowering. Even if you’re not a big fan of cauliflower, you should be able to enjoy this without much of a problem. That said, if you eat the pizza as is, you might find it to be a little insubstantial. As mentioned above, the crust is thin, and this pizza isn’t loaded with sauce or cheese. Trader Joe’s says that the serving size for this pizza is three slices, but if that’s all you eat, you’re probably going to be starving.

While we wouldn’t recommend this pizza as is, it seems like it’s the perfect base for a homemade pizza. Whether you top it with your favorite sausage, pepperoni, or an assortment of veggies, we think this pizza would be a lot better with a few more ingredients. If you want to make your own gluten-free pizza, but don’t want to go through the trouble of making a crust from scratch, this could be a solid option.

The Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Cheese Pizza with a Cauliflower Crust is a little too light to be a filling meal. However, if you’ve been searching for a gluten-free pizza that you can customize, this is a great option. Add the right ingredients, and you should be able to transform this into a tasty, satiating pizza.
