While the Freezer Meal Frenzy team is always on the lookout for new products, we also like to give products a second look from time to time. Not all of our staffers have the same tastes, and re-reviews can give our readers a more balanced perspective. That’s why we decided to give Trader Joe’s Cornbread Bites with Pepper Jack Cheese & Serrano Chile Peppers another look.
In our original review, we said we were impressed by how easy it was to prepare these tasty little bites. That’s definitely still the case. The bites are packaged individually, which means nothing is stuck together when you take them out of the packaging. All you really need to do is transfer the bites to a baking sheet and let them cook for 12 to 15 minutes. We’d also recommend that you put down some aluminum foil to ensure that nothing sticks to your baking sheet.
As you can probably tell from the image above, these bites are on the smaller side, but they’re still fairly substantial. The cornbread is nice and thick, and it has an appealing sweetness that cuts through the spiciness of the jalapeños and pepper jack cheese. The bites are also pretty packed with filling! Not only is each bite stuffed with cheese, but you’ll also notice the occasional corn kernel.
The last time we reviewed these bites, a Trader Joe’s staffer recommended that we eat the bites with sour cream. We took their advice and thought the bites were delicious that way. Even so, we opted to enjoy this snack plain this time around. Believe us when we say that condiments aren’t necessary. The cornbread is soft and moist on its own, and the bites don’t really need any extra flavor. If you have extra sour cream in your fridge, you can certainly try it, but we think that the bites are pretty much perfect on their own.
The Trader Joe’s Cornbread Bites with Pepper Jack Cheese & Serrano Chile Peppers are on the smaller side, but they’re still a flavorful snack that’s surprisingly filling. While you probably won’t enjoy these bites if you’re not a fan of cornbread, for anyone else this is a treat well worth trying. Just be careful if you’re sharing the bites with other people; they probably won’t last very long!
