Good Food Made Simple makes some killer breakfast burritos. We’re particularly fond of the Sriracha Scramble and the Himalayan breakfast burritos. So we were quite surprised to learn that one particular burrito — the Chicken Apple Sausage Breakfast Burrito — had somehow stealthily avoided the Freezer Meal Frenzy review process.
Today, we’re finally going to change that. Let’s see what this breakfast burrito has to offer.
One of the things we love about Good Food Made Simple’s burritos is that they often use a creamy filling. That’s true here as well, and it gives this burrito a lovely consistency. It also tastes great. It’s a white cheddar cheese sauce that reminds us of a white queso-type sauce.
We really wanted to comment on the quality of the chicken apple sausage here, since according to the package it’s the star of the show. Unfortunately, we couldn’t isolate a chunk of it large enough to really get a good taste of it. We trust Good Food Made Simple when they say it’s in there; we just can’t speak to its quality. (We did feel it when we took a big bite, but we didn’t get to pull it out and try it on its own.)
This also has egg whites and some chunks of potato in it, which make it feel a bit more robust. Then there are a whole bunch of veggies, including corn, diced tomatoes, and onions. There’s also supposedly a twist of lime, but unlike some of the other frozen burritos we’ve tried, we didn’t really taste it here.
This burrito has 290 calories (100 from fat) and 620 mg of sodium. That might not seem like a lot until you realize that it might actually take two of these to fill you up. Double those numbers and you realize this isn’t all that diet-friendly. (Of course, that cheese sauce might be worth a couple hundred calories or so; it’s delicious!)
The Good Food Made Simple Chicken Apple Sausage Breakfast Burrito is very good. That’s almost entirely because of the cheese sauce, but we have no real complaints about any of the ingredients in this burrito (except maybe the size of the sausage portion). We highly recommend this for breakfast burrito enthusiasts.
