While we’re (obviously) big fans of frozen dinners here at Freezer Meal Frenzy, sometimes it’s nice to just enjoy a frozen treat now and again. And when it comes to frozen treats, the Trader Joe’s freezer aisle is loaded with goodies. For example, the Mini Cheesecake Cones are absolutely fantastic.
Today, we’re in the mood for treats, so we’re checking out the Trader Joe’s Vanilla Ice Cream Bon Bons with Chocolate Cookie Crust. The box comes with a dozen bon bons inside, and we can’t wait to dig in!
Now, these really aren’t complicated treats — you’ve got vanilla ice cream on top of a cookie crust, and then the whole thing is dipped in chocolate. Of course, there’s no rule that says a delicious dessert must be complex, and these bon bons end up doing a whole lot with so little.
The hard chocolate shell is quite satisfying to bite through, and it’s also sweet and rich. In fact, we’re quite surprised at how much flavor just the shell has!
The other components are a bit more subtle, though they’re also great. The vanilla ice cream is smooth and sweet, while the cookie crust gives a cake-like texture to the bottom layer of each bon bon. All of these things come together to make for some pretty darn tasty treats.
For some reason, the package lists a dozen bon bons as a serving, even though that comes out to 760 calories. If you eat just one bon bon, that’s down to 60. We think the right amount is somewhere in the middle. Perhaps three bon bons? We’re wondering if the 12-bon-bon serving size was a misprint.
The Trader Joe’s Vanilla Ice Cream Bon Bons with Chocolate Cookie Crust are a good treat for any occasion, though they’re probably best when the weather is toasty hot. If you’re looking for something to cool you off and you’re in the mood for something sweet, you should definitely give these a try!
