We knew that Cinnabon had come out with a line of frozen foods not too long ago, but in those early months, we were unable to find any of it. That changed the other day, as an out-of-town Super Target had a whole bunch of them. (Theis line seems to be at Super Target stores now, though not your normal-sized, run-of-the-mill Target stores quite yet.)
So boy howdy, are we ever ready to try the mouthwatering, calorie-loaded breakfast sweets that we normally can only get while we’re wandering the halls of a suburban mall. Considering the current state of the American mall, this was a brilliant (or maybe an obvious) strategic move by the folks at Cinnabon.
So today we’re checking out the Cinnabon Frosting Filled CinnaPastry treats, our first (of many, we hope) exploration into this frozen food line.
According to the box, you should microwave one of these for about 30 seconds, if you microwave them straight out of the freezer. We followed those instructions, but we found that ours was still a bit cold around the edges. We added 15 seconds and the frosting filling started coming up out of the top like a delicious little volcano.
The concept here is that this these are cinnamon rolls, only the frosting is on the inside instead of drizzled over the top. It’s not the most innovative treat we’ve ever had, but that doesn’t really matter because these things are absolutely delicious.
These hit that perfect balance of almost-too-sweet-but-not-quite, sitting precariously on the edge of “sweetness overload” but not quite toppling over the edge. The doughy part has a mild cinnamon taste already, but the gobs of frosting dial up the sweetness, as does the excessive amount of additional cinnamon you’ll find mingling with that frosting.
If you wake up with a serious sweet tooth, one of these should be just what the doctor ordered. Well, probably not a real doctor…
There are four pastries per box, but only one is considered a serving. And that’s a good thing because a single pastry contains 450 calories. Eating just one is an indulgence; eating more than that is really pushing it.
The Cinnabon Frosting Filled CinnaPastry treats aren’t quite as good as getting Cinnabon fresh at an actual Cinnabon location, but they’re still pretty darn tasty. If you want to start your day off with a hyper-sweet sugar rush, then these are the breakfast treats for you.
