Most of the food we review here at Freezer Meal Frenzy would be considered a meal — whether breakfast, lunch, or dinner. But you can also find desserts in the freezer aisle, like the Trader Joe’s Mini Mint Ice Cream Mouthfuls. These little ice cream sandwiches really jumped out at us, and we knew we had to try them right away.
So let’s crack open a box and see what these are all about.
Once the box is open, you’ll find a dozen ice cream sandwiches nestled cozily in a plastic tray, as shown in the image below.
The ice cream is white, so it looks deceptively like vanilla. However, these are actually very, very minty. Of course, the description claims this is a mint chip ice cream, and we found very few chips inside our sandwiches. Did we get a defective batch? We’re not sure, but it’s hard to complain about missing chips when the ice cream itself tastes this good.
The cookie pieces that the ice cream is smooshed between resemble Oreos, though they lack the trademarked design and replace it with a bunch of shapes and swirls. They’re about the size of an Oreo cookie as well. They are, of course, loaded up with much more filling than even a double-stuffed Oreo would be.
Trader Joe’s considers two ice cream sandwiches to be a serving. That’s actually really good, because these are so good you’ll definitely want to eat more than one. If you stick with the recommended two, you’ll be downing 120 calories (45 from fat), which isn’t too bad for such a tasty dessert.
The Trader Joe’s Mini Mint Ice Cream Mouthfuls are absolutely delicious. These minty little treats are the perfect thing to cool off at the end of a hot summer day, but they’ll taste just as good any time of the year.
