Trader Joe’s Chicken Enchiladas with White Chicken Meat Review

Trader Joe's Chicken Enchiladas with White Chicken Meat

Longtime Freezer Meal Frenzy readers with the sharpest of eyes might recognize the Trader Joe’s Chicken Enchiladas with White Meat Chicken. We actually did review these a while back. However, they’ve gotten a lovely new baby blue package, so we thought we’d give them another look.

You can heat these enchiladas in a microwave or oven. Even though we nuked these the last time around, we were quite hungry, so we didn’t want to wait 45 minutes for our enchiladas to cook in the oven. So we went with Ol’ Steely (that’s what we call our microwave) once again. This does require three minutes on 50% power, though, which makes even the microwave method take a bit longer than we’d like. We need to eat!

The last time we reviewed these, we thought the shells were a bit iffy but everything else was good enough that it didn’t matter so much. This time around, we weren’t overjoyed about the ends of the shells getting a little crunchy, but we actually thought they tasted pretty good. These are corn-based shells, so they do have more flavor than your typical flour tortilla.

The enchiladas are filled with chicken, which is quite lovely. It’s a stringy, shredded chicken, and it tastes great. It also has a really nice texture, but that’s partially because of how the cheese melts into the chicken. The cheese is, for the record, mostly here for texture. These are certainly not cheesy enchiladas.

All of this comes topped in a tasty red sauce. The sauce is mainly tomato paste, but the tomato flavor isn’t as strong as you might expect. The sauce packs a bit of a spicy punch, though, so be warned if you don’t like spicy food. These enchiladas will clear out the sinuses!

The recipe here must have been altered a bit, because while the old package contained 420 calories, this one only has 330. We’re not sure if the size was reduced or if Trader Joe’s just found a lighter recipe. Either way, that’s good news for dieters.

The Trader Joe’s Chicken Enchiladas are back with a new package and a reduced calorie count. The flavor is still great, though, so the next time you have an enchilada craving, pick up a pack of these at your local Trader Joe’s!

Most everything I’ve tried has been tasty… These chicken enchiladas were terrible. The corn tortillas were gooey and the chicken was so shredded it was mush. Not edible at all. Very disappointing.

They were terrible. I couldn’t even see or taste the chicken. I threw it out without finishing.

These were terrible, not at all up to Trader Joe’s usual high standards. Only two tiny bits of chicken meat that were inedibly tough and nearly unidentifiable. I won’t buy these again and can’t recommend them.
