Freezer Meal Frenzy is a frozen food review site. While we mostly stick to frozen meals, ice cream and gelato fall inside this category as well. This is a fact that we don’t take advantage of often enough, as we hardly ever review ice cream or gelato here (though we’ve definitely done it before).
Today, we’re very happy to be digging into the Talenti Vanilla Fudge Cookie Gelato Layers. We’re not going to lie, this looks pretty dang amazing.
First off, we want to mention that when you unscrew the top, you’ll find a protective seal over the top of the carton. We found ours to be really difficult to get open, and we don’t remember having this problem with Talenti gelato before. We appreciate that this seal is hard to tamper with, but it’s also difficult to remove, and it leaves behind unsightly pieces around the rim of the carton.
The contents of the carton are made up of five layers. The top layer is Talenti’s Double Dark Gelato, which is absolutely incredible. It’s dark and super rich, which is exactly how it should be. It’s also softer than we were anticipating. For some reason, we thought this might be hard to dig through with a spoon (perhaps because the cover and seal were both so relentlessly tight), but it’s easily scooped straight out of the freezer.
The next two layers are a bit deceptive. There are some chocolate cookie crumbles and a fudge sauce, but they mostly just go around the edge of the carton so that it looks pretty. If you dig through the center of the carton, you’ll notice that the Double Dark goes way deeper than it appears when you look at the side of the carton.
Beyond that, you’ve got a layer of Madagascan Vanilla Bean Gelato, which is surprisingly rich. While we half expected the vanilla portion to take a backseat to all the rich chocolate and fudge, it’s just as rich as the other flavors in this concoction.
In the very bottom, you’ve got chunks of waffle cone. This layer is like the fudge and cookies layers, where it only goes around the edge of the package so that it looks fancy from the side. There’s a smaller waffle cone portion than you might expect.
Overall, this reminds us a little bit of those ice cream cakes you get from Dairy Queen, only made for super-rich people. This takes that chocolate, fudge, vanilla, and cookie crunch concept, but it uses the highest-quality ingredients. The Talenti Vanilla Fudge Cookie Gelato Layers dessert is a true frozen masterpiece.
