Good & Gather Mushroom & Caramelized Red Onion Wood-Fired Crust Pizza Review

Good & Gather Mushroom & Caramelized Red Onion Wood-Fired Crust Pizza

We’ve been digging through the Good & Gather brand ever since Target first introduced it. If you’ve been to a Target store in the past year or so, you’re probably already familiar with this store-exclusive brand. If not, Good & Gather was created to replace the Archer Farms and Simply Balanced brands. We reviewed plenty of Archer Farms frozen foods, so we’ve been keeping the tradition alive with Good & Gather.

Today, we’re checking out the Good & Gather Mushroom & Caramelized Red Onion Wood-Fired Crust Pizza. It hasn’t been that long since we’ve tried a new frozen pizza, so we can’t say this is long overdue. That doesn’t mean we’re not excited, though, because this pizza looks bonkers good!

First, of course, we must cook it. Cooking this is pretty easy. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit, then pop the pizza in for 17 minutes. The instructions say to cook this directly on the oven rack, but we used a baking sheet, like we always do. (If you want to read the full cooking instructions straight off the box, check out the package scans at the bottom of this review.)

We admit that we cooked our pizza for just a bit too long. The instructions say to cook it for 17 minutes and we left ours in for 18. That seems like a small thing, but we think it’s important to mention because of what we’re about to say next: The crust ends up a bit hard and tough. The outer edges are hard enough that they sort of break into splinters when you bite into them, and the center is soft but tough to chew through. We admit this might be a result of overcooking it, but at the same time, we hardly overcooked it at all.

Aside from that, we really enjoyed this pizza. The flavor of the crust is actually quite good, even though we didn’t care for the hardness. The sauce is a white garlic sauce instead of a tomato-based paste, and that’s a really great touch here as well.

As for veggies, you’ve got mushrooms and caramelized onion, as the title claims. The mushrooms are juicy and succulent, blending well with the olive oil and sunflower seed oil that’s present here. The portion size is generous. We love mushrooms, and these ones are great. The red caramelized onions add an oniony vibe, but also a little touch of sweetness that makes for the perfect finish to this tasty meal.

According to the box, 1/3 of the pizza is a serving, though we know you’re just going to eat half of it, no matter what anybody says! If you stick with the box’s recommendation, you’ll be ingesting 320 calories and 640 mg of sodium. That means the full pizza contains 960 calories and 1,920 mg of sodium, and a half pizza contains 480 calories and 960 mg of sodium. So our half-pizza suggestion would be a bit high in both calories and sodium, though not nearly as bad as some of the other pizzas we’ve tried.

The Good & Gather Mushroom & Caramelized Red Onion Wood-Fired Crust Pizza is a great-tasting pizza, though we wish the crust were just a bit softer. Perhaps undercooking this a little bit might help that, but we can’t be sure until we try it ourselves. Hmmm, maybe we’ll have to try this again and do a “second look” article in the future…
