Good & Gather Chicken & Cheese Quesadilla Cones Review

Good & Gather Chicken & Cheese Quesadilla Cones

The Freezer Meal Frenzy office is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which is also home to the Target corporation. And that means we Freezer Meal Frenzians are quite fond of shopping at Target. It’s kind of a Minneapolis stereotype, but we’re not fighting against our nature on this one; we just really like Target.

And that means we eat a lot of Target-branded food from lines such as Good & Gather. At our most recent Target shopping spree, we stumbled upon the Good & Gather Chicken & Cheese Quesadilla Cones, which look quite intriguing. We love quesadillas, and we love things that get stuffed into cones! Well, at least the first part of that is true, but the cone-shape concept did catch our attention.

Now, cooking these is a pretty simple task. Just preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, place the quesadilla cones on a baking sheet, then pop the whole thing into the oven for about 16 to 17 minutes — we found 15 minutes to be plenty, but ovens vary in cooking speed, so you might need longer than that. We half expected the filling here (or “the guts”) to spill out and get all over the pan while these were cooking, but that never happened. The reason for this is that the filling is actually all blended up into a mash. That means you won’t get chunks of chicken or layers of ooey-gooey cheese; it’s all just mashed together into a concoction that almost looks like scrambled eggs from a distance.

Because everything is smooshed together, it’s hard to comment on the quality of each component independently. However, they all come together quite nicely, and we really enjoy the way these taste. There’s a chicken-casserole flavor to the whole ordeal, but then it’s all tied together with a spritz of lime. We couldn’t help but wonder how these might taste without that lime juice, but we did really enjoy that as an added touch.

All of this comes jam-packed into pieces of flour tortilla that have been shaped into cones. They end up just slightly crispy, as you’d expect from any quesadilla shell.

According to the box, four quesadilla cones is a serving, which is a little frustrating because there are nine cones in a box. If you stick with the recommended amount, you’re taking in 190 calories and 470 mg of sodium. If you scarf down the whole box in a sitting, you’ll be up to 430 calories and 1,060 mg of sodium. And it’s pretty easy to eat all of these in a sitting; they’re not super big or anything.

The Good & Gather Chicken & Cheese Quesadilla Cones are quite tasty, though that’s largely due to the addition of lime juice. While we’re not in love with the way the filling is all blended together — we’d have preferred chunks of chicken with melty cheese — we can’t deny that it works out in the end.
