Udi’s Cheese & Spinach Mezzaluna Review

Udi's Cheese & Spinach Mezzaluna

Udi’s line of gluten-free frozen foods shows that you don’t necessarily need gluten for a great frozen dish. We’ve enjoyed many of the Udi meals we’ve tried, and the Cheese & Spinach Mezzaluna with Artichokes is especially appealing. If we didn’t know this was a gluten-free dish, we would have assumed that it was regular pasta. You can’t taste the difference at all.

The combination of mezzaluna ravioli and artichokes is appealing, but it can also be confusing. The ravioli and the artichokes are hard to tell apart, especially when they’re both covered in cheese and garlic sauce. Thankfully, both of them are delicious. No matter what you wind up biting into, you’ll be satisfied.

Of course, artichokes aren’t the only appealing ingredient in this dish. While some frozen meals are stingy on mushrooms, but this dish has mushrooms to spare. The crimini mushrooms are fairly large, and they’ve got a great meaty flavor. The red bell peppers are are great as well; they’re a near-perfect blend of sweet and savory.

If you’re just interested in the ravioli, you won’t be disappointed. The filling is fairly standard — gluten-free ricotta cheese blended with spinach — but it still tastes great. Since the dish is smothered in mozzarella cheese and sprinkled with Parmesan, there’s more than enough cheese to spare. The garlic sauce is creamy and flavorful, but it isn’t overpowering. You won’t be left with garlic breath after dining on this dish.

We love ravioli here at Freezer Meal Frenzy, and we think that Udi’s gluten-free dishes are worth trying. Even if you’re not trying to avoid gluten, this dish is good enough to stand on its own.
