Evol is famous for their burritos, and it’s not hard to see why. Their Sriracha Chicken Burrito, for example, is one of our favorite frozen burritos on the market.
But we’re not always enthused about their non-burrito options. So when we first discovered the Bulgogi Beef, we really weren’t sure what to expect. We wanted to love it, of course, but we’ve also had a few bad experiences with Evol’s lineup, so we knew we had to keep our expectations reasonable.
Now, first off, Evol isn’t always forthcoming about the amount of meat in their dishes. Some of their meals, such as the Chicken Enchiladas or the Hawaiian Style Grilled Chicken, really skimp out on the meat content. That isn’t really the case here. While we wouldn’t say no to more of it, the beef portion of this bowl seems pretty reasonable.
And it’s a pretty good beef, too. It’s firm and rich, and some pieces are slightly charred on the edges. It also tastes incredible when it soaks up the bulgogi barbeque sauce.
And that’s the thing that really makes this dish — that delicious sauce. It’s a sweeter Korean-style sauce that we just can’t get enough of. It makes us hopeful that Evol will someday mix up something similar and create a bibimbap dish. For now, this is the closest thing they offer.
There are some veggies mixed in here, such as snap peas — which are delicious — and carrots. It’s all nesting on a bed of brown rice. The rice, like the chicken, soaks up that bulgogi sauce, so you’ll be scraping the bowl at the end to get every last taste.
Evol’s Bulgogi Beef is a real winner. We were hesitant to try it at first, but now that we’ve had it, we’ve become huge fans. We definitely hope Evol keeps putting out fantastic dishes like this one in the future.
