Trader Joe's Chocolate Fudge Oat Bars Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert

If you’re looking for an ice-cold treat but don’t want to consume dairy, you’re probably on the hunt for some decent ice cream alternatives. We’ve tried a few in our years of reviewing frozen food here at Freezer Meal Frenzy, including the Hold the Dairy! Chocolate Mini Coconut Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert Cones and the So Delicious Dairy Free Salted Caramel Cluster Cashewmilk Dessert.

But if you’re specifically interested in something that comes on a stick, you might be eyeballing the Trader Joe’s Chocolate Fudge Oat Bars Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert. We’re on the same page, folks, because we’ve been curious about this frozen treat ourselves. So buckle up and enjoy the ride, because today we’re taking these bars for a serious test drive.

Now, we should point out right away that there are four bars in a box, and they all come individually wrapped, nice and tidy.

Once you unwrap one of these oat bars, you’ll find a layer of frozen fudge, surrounding even more frozen fudge. Yes, it’s fudge all the way down, folks!

But don’t expect something super-duper rich like, say, the Peanuts for Chocolate Ice Cream! This is a bit subtler. It’s still sweet, creamy, and delicious, but not delectably rich like some of TJ’s other desserts. For some people, that’s going to be just fine — for others, it might be a dealbreaker.

We did find the consistency to be a little weird. Honestly, the insides of these bars feel a little bit like frozen bananas, at least in terms of squishiness, stickiness, and density. It’s not what we expected from an oat-based fudge bar. Note that we’re not complaining — we actually enjoyed these quite a bit — but they feel a little weird in our mouths.

If you eat the recommended single bar, you’ll be gulping down about 100 calories. Actually, probably less than that, because the nutrition facts on the back of the box list 380 calories for all four. This suggests that the 100 calories number for a single bar is probably rounded up. Probably.

The Trader Joe’s Chocolate Fudge Oat Bars Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert are a pretty decent way to get a delicious cold treat without consuming gluten or animal products. Considering these go so far out of their way to be friendly for as many dietary restrictions as they do, it’s pretty remarkable that they still ended up tasting so darn good!
