Sweet Earth Santa Fe Veggie Burgers Review

Sweet Earth Santa Fe Veggie Burgers

Similar to Amy’s Kitchen, Sweet Earth is a company that makes a broad range of vegetarian-friendly frozen food. We started our personal Sweet Earth journey with their burritos, then we moved on to their breakfast sandwiches, and we eventually made our way to their frozen pizzas. What we seemed to have missed in this voyage, however, is their veggie burger line.

Today, that changes. We’re checking out the Sweet Earth Santa Fe Veggie Burgers to see what they’re all about.

The recommended cooking method for these requires a skillet and very little time. The box recommends cooking these two to three minutes per side, which is practically nothing. We went with the skillet for ours, though a traditional oven or toaster oven would also be an option. (To see the full cooking instructions for these frozen veggie burgers, check out our package scans at the bottom of this review.)

As you can see in the above image, each patty is striped with grill marks. This is how they come; we did not cook ours on a grill. We’re not sure if this is because they are pre-grilled or simply manufactured to look this way, but we appreciate the effort here.

Now, these veggie burgers are not designed to fool anyone into thinking they’re made of actual meat. They’re loaded up with beans, sweet potatoes, corn, carrots, and more, so they don’t have a meatlike texture or meatlike flavor at all. That’s not a bad thing, though. The flavor combo of the black beans and the sweet potatoes is what comes through the strongest, and it’s a really great taste that would probably go better with some guacamole than traditional burger dressings.

A single burger isn’t going to bust a diet, with just 170 calories (only 40 from fat). However, keep in mind that you’re probably going to be adding a bunch of stuff to your patty. We went with a wheat bun, cheddar cheese, ketchup, and mustard — it’s a pretty simple, standard combo, yet every piece of that will add more calories.

The Sweet Earth Santa Fe Veggie Burgers won’t fool any carnivores, but they’re not really trying to. These are designed to create a southwest-style kick to build your own creative take on the traditional burger. We dig it!
