Lotzza Motzza Buffalo Style Chicken Pizza Review

Lotzza Motzza Buffalo Style Chicken Pizza

While we try to approach every frozen food review from an objective perspective, there are brands that we get really excited about no matter how hard we try to keep our expectations in check. And the Lotzza Motzza brand might top that list — we love reviewing these tasty pizzas.

For a while, rumors were swirling about a buffalo chicken pizza in the LM line. We’d seen it posted on the Bernatello’s website, but we hadn’t actually seen it in person. But you’d better believe we’ve been searching high and low for this taste Nirvana. We did finally locate one of these, and it ended up being closer than we expected (we found this at a very-close grocery store we’d been neglecting ever since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic).

So you’d better believe we’re excited to be putting this thing in our mouths today. Yes, today is the day we finally taste the Lotzza Motzza Buffalo Style Chicken Pizza.

So let’s dig in!

If you’ve ever cooked a frozen pizza before, you should already know how this goes. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, then cook the pizza for about 21 minutes. The instructions say you should place the pizza directly on the oven rack, but we always use a baking sheet and our Lotzza Motzza pizzas turn out lovely every time. (If you want to read the full cooking instructions, check out the package scan at the bottom of this review.)

One thing that’s important to note is that we cooked this up during a particularly nasty cold snap, with temperatures dropping well below zero. If you’ve never endured this sort of weather, you might be surprised to learn that one of the things that happens is the air gets really, really dry. There are ways to compensate — such as running a humidifier or misting your pizza with a spray bottle of water before cooking — but we didn’t do any of them. One edge of our pizza ended up a little dry as a result, which you can probably see in the image above.

However, it takes more than a little bit of dryness to ruin a Lotzza Motzza pizza, and this thing is still fantastic.

The main event is, of course, the buffalo sauce, which replaces your standard red sauce here. While we do love Lotzza Motzza’s usualy spicy red sauce, we have to admit that the buffalo sauce really hits the spot. The portion is generous as well, and some of the sauce gushed out of the sides when we cut this into slices. It does have a mild-to-medium spice level (depending on your spice tolerance), and the addition of bleu cheese really brings together the flavor combo.

The chicken is cut into little cubes, and it comes out tasting rich and flavorful. This is a combination of rib and breast meat, which puts it a step above it’s pure-breast-meat peers. We really like this chicken as a pizza topper, and it works really well in tandem with that tasty sauce.

The crust and cheese are both your standard Lotzza Motzza offerings. What we mean is you’ve got a crackery thin crust with gobs and gobs of stretchy mozzarella cheese. As superfans of LM pizza, we approve heartily of this combo.

Obviously, this pizza was not made with dieters in mind. If you eat just 1/5 of the pizza, you’re looking at 300 calories (100 from fat) and 1,400 mg of sodium. That means a full pie would run you 1,500 calories (500 from fat) and 7,000 mg of sodium. We doubt you’ll be eating a full pizza, but a half pizza is much less ambitious and will still cost you 750 calories (250 from fat) and 3,500 mg of sodium. No matter how you slice it, you’re going to be eating a lot of calories and an absolute boatload of sodium. This is definitely a cheat day food rather than an everyday meal.

The Lotzza Motzza Buffalo Chicken Pizza is a wonderful addition to the Brew Pub line of frozen pizzas. We were huge fans of Lotzza Motzza already, and tasting this buffalo-style pizza has only increased our affection for their offerings. If you love pizza with lots of cheese, and you have a hankering for some buffalo-style chicken, you really can’t go wrong with this frozen pizza.
