DiGiorno Stuffed Crust Five Cheese Pizza Review

DiGiorno Stuffed Crust Five Cheese Pizza

DiGiorno is no small fry in the world of frozen pizza. It’s not difficult to see why they’ve managed to be such a memorable name in the market, since their pizzas tend to be reasonably priced while tastingpretty darn good. Here at Freezer Meal Frenzy, we really enjoy the stuff DiGiorno puts out.

Today we’re checking out the DiGiorno Stuffed Crust Five Cheese Pizza. We’ve reviewed the personal-sized version of this pizza in the past, but today we’re chomping into the full-sized pie. The one difference we noticed right off the top is that this one claims to be a five-cheese pizza, while the personal version only claimed to be a four-cheese pizza. Very curious indeed.

Now, this is a bit of an aside, but the stuffed-crust version of this pizza hasn’t always been easy to find. In fact, there was one time a cashier at our local grocery store told us it didn’t exist. “DiGiorno only makes stuffed-crust versions of their pepperoni pizzas,” they said. Well, they were wrong back then, and they’re still wrong today (DiGiorno has been adding to their stuffed-crust line for a while now.)

As a full-sized pizza, this is not designed to go in the microwave, so we were forced to use the oven. (The personal-sized pizzas can usually be cooked in the microwave without a problem.) It’s not difficult, of course. (You can read the full cooking instructions by checking out the package scans at the bottom of this review.)

One thing we should point out here is that our pizza took a little bit longer than the instructions on the package said it should. Our pizza cooked for about 25 minutes, and parts of it were still a little doughy. We quite enjoy our DiGiorno pizzas a little doughy, mind you, but we know some people who think that’s kind of gross. So you might want to consider giving this a few extra minutes in the ol’ cooker.

This does seem like it has a little bit more cheese than the personal-sized version, and we really appreciate that. It’s nice and stretchy, and it has a good flavor to it.

Oh, and there’s cheese in the crust as well. While we do enjoy DiGiorno’s traditional crust, we think the stuffed crust is even better. It’s maybe not quite as cheesy as you might hope, but it keeps the crust soft all the way to the edges, and that’s a quality we really love.

One thing that caught us off guard was that DiGiorno considers 1/5 of a pizza to be a serving — and we didn’t realize that until after we’d eaten half a pizza (which we feel is the most realistic serving size). And man, do those calories ever add up!

A fifth of a pizza contains 310 calories (140 from fat), which means the full thing has 1,550 calories (700 from fat), and our half-pizza serving contains 775 calories (350 from fat). Yikes! This is definitely not intended for dieters!

We love the DiGiorno Stuffed Crust Five Cheese Pizza. This is one of those classic frozen meals that we’ll never grow tired of. While the sky-high calorie count means we won’t eat this every day, this is definitely a meal for when we want to treat ourselves to some very good frozen pizza.
